Lunch and wine at Bar Bocata in Gràcia Barcelona

THE STORY

My sister and I were walking around Gràcia neighbourhood looking for a place to have lunch. We passed quite a few restaurants, but one of the only ones that caught our attention was Bar Bocata.

WE WANT
THAT ONE.

It is a small, casual spot on Travessera de Gràcia, and the first thing we noticed was this little table right in the window. We looked at each other and immediately decided. And spoiler alert: we got the table.

We arrived at around 12:45 without a reservation, which worked out perfectly for us. But not long after, people with reservations started arriving and the restaurant quickly filled up. So although we got lucky, I'd definitely make a reservation if you know you want to go.

It happened to be Diada de Catalunya, and our waiter was incredibly friendly, even explaining a little about the celebrations and what was happening around Barcelona that day. The whole place had that relaxed neighbourhood feeling I love, good food, good wine and absolutely no rush.

Tapas and Verdejo at Bar Bocata Barcelona

WHAT WE ATE

OUR ORDER

We started with the ensaladilla rusa. It had a few more ingredients than the very simple version I normally prefer, but it was fresh and a really nice start.

Then came the tortilla de patatas. This was the one. Very runny in the middle, full of flavour and served with bread.

IF YOU ORDER
ONE THING,
MAKE IT THE
TORTILLA.

We also had two croquetas de asado, which were rich and full of flavour. Three tapas between the two of us ended up being enough for a lighter lunch, although I'd add another dish if you're really hungry.

And obviously, lunch needed wine. We went for a bottle of Verdejo, very fresh, mineral and easy to finish sitting in that window. Also a perfect match for the warmer weather we had that day.

The menu itself isn't huge, which I actually liked. There are a handful of smaller bites, around ten tapas, some sandwiches and three desserts. The desserts looked very tempting, but we already had our eyes on a cinnamon roll next door. Kind of regret not getting a dessert there in the end tho...

For Barcelona, I thought the value was really good. We ate well, shared a bottle of wine and stayed for around an hour and a half without ever feeling rushed.

SENNA
SAYS

Bar Bocata is one of those places I'd come back to for an easy lunch when I'm in Gràcia. It's not somewhere I'd choose for a super chic dinner or a big special occasion, and it doesn't need to be.

Come here with a friend, your sister, for a casual date or even by yourself. Order a few things, get a bottle of wine and take your time.

WORTH THE HYPE?
YES.

And next time, I'm getting that window table again.
